What Is Oil Pulling?

Can It Really Clear Acne and Trigger Weight Loss?

Oil pulling is the latest DIY at home skin and beauty treatment everyone is talking about.  It’s definitely a bit weird but based on the numerous health benefits you will receive by oil pulling daily it’s definitely something you’ll want to consider adding to your beauty routine!

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy used for oral health and total body detoxification. By swishing oil in the mouth first thing every morning and “pulling” it between your teeth and gums as you swish, you can “pull” harmful fungus, bacteria and other toxic organisms from your mouth, teeth and gums.

How To Oil Pull

The best time to oil pull is first thing in the morning. Our body detoxes most while we sleep so in the morning we can continue the detox process by oil pulling before we start our day. To oil pull, take about a tablespoon of cold pressed organic coconut or sesame oil into the mouth and swish the oil around for as long as you can. The goal is about 15 minutes but start with 3 and work your way up. When you’re done you can spit out your oil and rinse your mouth with warm water.

Can I Lose Weight With Oil Pulling?

Although oil pulling has been used for centuries and many people swear by it, there have been very few clinical studies done on the technique. So can you lose weight from oil pulling? The jury is still out on this one but my answer is - quite possibly. Oil pulling works because the lipids or fats in the oils pull out toxins and the more you oil pull the more toxins you will release. Often, it’s toxins in our bodies that are prohibiting us from shedding extra weight so oil pulling is definitely a good thing to do if you are looking to lose weight. Oil pulling also helps the lymphatic system and a healthy lymphatic system also sheds unwanted toxins assisting in weight loss.

Will Oil Pulling Clear My Acne?

Again, since the oils are said to remove toxins and inflammation from the body this would also help with acne and breakouts. However, as the body detoxifies our acne issues can worsen temporarily. This will subside but many people don’t realize that when their skin is getting worse it’s actually part of the healing process.
