The 4 Most Bizarre Facials In The World And Do They Really Work?

As an esthetician I am always researching the latest technology and advancements in skincare. Recently there are a few treatments that have hit the market that are just plain bizarre and have left my clients with a slew of questions.

Here I have listed for you some of the most intriguing new opportunities and what you need to know.

 Bee Venom Facial

Honey bee venom contains peptides like melittin and apamin which are known to increase blood circulation and stimulate collagen. In a facial treatment, the bee venom is usually applied in a mask form. It’s known as nature’s natural alternative to injections and while results are visible, they are also short term. I always recommend patch testing all products prior to use for potential allergies.

 Vampire Facial

This treatment involves having your own blood drawn and then separated in a centrifuge. Using micro needles, plasma is then injected into your skin, which builds collagen and heals scarring. The Vampire Facial is also known as PRP- Platelet Rich Plasma, because it utilizes your own bodies healing ability to stimulate the reversal of sun damage, aging and fine lines.

Snail Facial

What started in a Toyko Spa has become a worldwide sensation. This truly wild facial involves putting live snails on the face. The snails distribute their mucus which is said to aid in the removal of dead skin cells and increase the skin’s ability to hydrate among other things that I find a bit hard to believe. While exfoliation is key to younger and healthier looking skin, I believe there are far better ways to see results than to invest in a snail facial.

 Fire Facial

Another treatment that originated in Japan is known as the fire treatment. It is so outrageous many people wondered if this was even true- but it is. It begins with taking towels that are soaked in alcohol and what’s simply called “an invigorating beauty elixir”. The towels are draped over parts of the body, and then actually set on fire. While this could be a perfectly safe treatment when performed by a trained esthetician, I have a hard time believing this has any benefit and it isn’t something I would try!
