The Seran Wrap Secret

Written by Kerry Benjamin

The Seran Wrap Secret

I recently used an everyday household product to create a pretty extraordinary at home skin treatment for my dry skin and eczema. It’s become my one of favorite secrets to combat my skin issues and I wanted to share this with everyone!

We all have dry skin at some time in our lives – especially now as we move into the driest and most difficult time of the year for skin.

So why does our skin get so dry?

Dry skin is due to a naturally low production of oil.  As long as the air is drier than your skin, water will evaporate from the skin making it feel and look very dry. This is known as Transepidermal Water Loss, or TEWL.

The best way to keep skin hydrated is to minimize water loss with what are known as humectant and occlusive ingredients.

Humectants draw moisture from your dermis to hydrate your epidermis – or outermost layer of the skin.  The most popular humectants in skin care are hyaluronic acid, which absorbs 1,000 times its molecular weight in water.

Occlusives work in conjunction with humectants to lock in moisture by forming a barrier on the surface of the skin.  Examples of some of the very best are shea butter, silicones, plant oils and squalane.

How To Do It

The first step is to pick your favorite moisturizer and anti-inflammatory topicals, and the second step is to seal all that goodness with Seran Wrap!

To get the best results, cleanse, apply serums and moisturizer and seal it with seran wrap!  No need to wrap yourself like a mummy, seran wrap easily adheres to your skin.

For those with severely dry skin and eczema, this is my go to coupled with ice gel packs (see my eczema tips here).  Slather moisture and cover with seran wrap and ice gel packs to soothe and calm inflammation.  Wake up the next morning with healed skin.

This really does work and I am excited to hear your experiences and thoughts!
