Why Cleansing At Night Is The Most Important Skincare Step

Why Cleansing At Night Is The Most Important Skincare Step

You’ve been out with friends and get home late. The pillow is calling you! But don’t give in to sleep just yet. Read about why cleansing at night is crucial for maintaining a clear complexion. Washing your face before you crash is a one of the most important things you can do to take care of your skin. It’s not just about preventing acne—cleansing at night can help inhibit a myriad of skin woes and give you a fresher, healthier complexion.

Wash Away Pollution

It’s not just makeup and oil sitting on your skin after a long day. Free radicals from air pollution and UV radiation are there too. These aging molecules can cause premature skin aging. Washing them away from the surface of your skin each night can help promote youthful looking skin. Follow with an antioxidant-rich serum like my Firming Eye Complex and Shiunko Blush Face Oil for extra protection.

Remove Makeup

Most makeup these days is actually so much better for your skin than it used to be. But that doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily good for your skin. The fact is that leaving your makeup on overnight makes it difficult for your skin to purge dirt, oil and bacteria lurking in your pores. Leave your foundation on and you may wake up with some nasty breakouts or skin irritation.

Increase Product Absorption

I hope you aren’t just slathering on some lotion before bed without giving your face a good wash, but if you are, you might not be doing your complexion much good. Skincare absorbs best on freshly washed, slightly damp skin. Pat some lotion onto dry, dirty skin and it will have a hard time sinking in, giving you lackluster results.

Help Your Skin Regenerate

While regularly exfoliating is really the best way to help your skin regenerate, washing your face nightly helps to loosen up dead skin and sebum, acting like a mild exfoliating treatment. Skip it regularly and you’ll end up with a lot of build-up that can keep your cells from producing fresh, plump new skin. Try our Prebiotic Gel Cleanser which is gentle enough to use multiple times a day.

If you simply can’t commit to giving your face a good cleanse every night, invest in some convenient face wipes that are alcohol free. While they don’t quite do the job of a full cleanse, they can at least help remove some of the toxins and makeup left on your skin after a long day.
